The clients came to us looking to make better use of a builder-grade house that felt dated and lacked the warmth, comfort, and sense of quality they were looking for. Rather than completely rethinking the house, we focused on targeted changes that improved how the family could live in it.

On the first floor, targeted changes improved the flow and connection between spaces. Removing an existing column allowed us to rethink the kitchen island, while a new entry vestibule created a more defined arrival. Rebuilding the lower portion of the enclosed stair opened the view between the living and dining rooms.

The kitchen island is finished in ebony-stained white oak, adding contrast while retaining the texture and warmth of natural wood. Unlacquered brass hardware will develop a patina with use, adding another layer of character over time.

In the primary bathroom, natural limestone with a subtly rounded edge was used for the floor. It’s a small detail, but the softened edge gives the stone a more tactile quality underfoot.
