About Us
Nolan Bell is an architecture and interior design studio founded by Joel Nolan and Andrew Bell. Based in Austin, Texas, we work on residential and hospitality projects near and far, with an appreciation for good materials, meaningful details, and spaces with a character all their own.
Our Approach
Every project begins with an understanding of the people and the place. We take the time to consider how a space will be used, its relationship to its surroundings, and the opportunities that make each project unique. We consider architecture, interiors, materials, and details together, approaching the design as a whole to create spaces that feel natural, intentional, and distinctly their own.
The Studio
Joel and Andrew lead a collaborative practice rooted in close relationships with clients, consultants, builders, and craftspeople. From the earliest conversations through construction, the studio takes a hands-on approach, bringing care and attention to every stage of the process.
The Team
Joel Nolan
Principal Architect & Interior Designer
Joel is a Principal and Co-Founder of Nolan Bell. He began his career at Marmon Mok and later worked at Michael Hsu Office of Architecture before founding NolanStudio in 2016. His experience spans residential, hospitality, furniture, and fabrication, as well as the broader business of running a practice. At Nolan Bell, he works across design, project delivery, and studio operations.
Andrew Bell
Principal Architect & Interior Designer
Andrew is a Principal and Co-Founder of Nolan Bell. He joined Michael Hsu Office of Architecture in 2011, growing from designer to Senior Associate as the firm expanded. His experience spans residential and commercial projects, including complex, award-winning work. At Nolan Bell, he leads projects across design and technical development.
Chelsea Fanning
Senior Interior Designer
Chelsea is a Senior Interior Designer at Nolan Bell with 11 years of experience in design. She previously worked at Runa Workshop, Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, and Hai Hospitality, where she led interior design for new and existing restaurants. At Nolan Bell, she focuses on interiors, materials, furnishings, detailing, and keeping projects on track.
Adam Berman
Project Architect
Adam is a Project Architect at Nolan Bell with a background in architecture, environmental design, and multidisciplinary practice. He previously worked at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and Dattner Architects in New York on residential and high-rise projects. At Nolan Bell, he works across design and construction, with a focus on technical execution, detailing, and sustainable building strategies.
The Process
We start by studying the site, code requirements, and existing conditions, then explore floor plans and precedent imagery to establish a direction. 3D modeling helps clients visualize the architecture and interiors together. From there, we refine materials, finishes, hardware, and lighting before preparing construction documents.
